Top Places (in Japan) to Visit during Winter Break

1. Shirakawa-go

Located in the Ōno District of Gifu Prefecture, Shirakawa Village is a mountain settlement that experiences heavy snowfall in the winter. Along with being a wonderful sightseeing place, it is also populated with houses with unique exterior and interior. Moreover, there is also a museum, shops for souvenirs as well as restaurants. You may also choose to spend the night in one of the house with reservations!

2. Tokyo Skytree

Hatsu-hinode or watching the first sunrise of the year is a commonly practiced New Year’s Day tradition. And what better way to view the first dawn of 2022 from the tallest building in Tokyo! The Tokyo Skytree is located in Sumida Ward, Tokyo and stands 634m. It offers a breathtaking view of the city from its observation decks.

3. Takasu Snow-Park

The “Takasu Snow Park” is located in the mountains of Dainichi Gifu Prefecture. It takes about 2 hours from Nagoya Station by bus and costs ¥6,600 (adult). You are able to rent skis and snowboards and gear depending on the type of seasonal ticket you purchase. There are classes that you are able to take for beginners. You are able to choose a different level of course depending on your experience. If you are planning to have a trip to the mountains and looking to have some fun I highly recommend “Takasu Snow Park”.

4. Denpark Winter Festival

The illumination is located in the park “DENPARK” in anjo city. It’s around 30 minutes by car from Nagoya and the entry fee is 300 yen (middle school) and 700 yen (high school + adults). The best time to go will definitely be at night where you can walk around the park and enjoy the different illuminations! If you are staying in Aichi prefecture this winter, this might be worth visiting!
