Japan Service Dog Association

On November 14th, the NIS JSDA club was given the opportunity to visit the Japan Service Dog Association facility in Nagakute. The Japan Service Dog Association was established in 2004  that aims to help people with physical disabilities live independently with the help of service dogs. It was such an amazing experience to be able to have this opportunity because this facility was Japan’s only service dog training center. In this facility, we were first warmly welcomed by one of the service dogs named Jezel. We were given a presentation to give us a better understanding of what the JSDA aims to do for the future of physically disabled people. One of the most exciting part of this whole experience was being able to see the demonstrations of what types of training the service dogs were able to do. We feel that being able to listen and watch demonstrations and the presentations allowed us to gain new knowledge about this organization and encouraged us to raise more awareness.

As a club, we aim to spread awareness about the Japan Service Dogs to a bigger audience. Our goal is to be able to physically hold a demonstration at our school to educate some of the younger audiences of what JSDA is and what its purpose is. Also, we are looking forward to helping with collecting some donations. This will help with training these service dogs in these facilities and give bigger opportunities for those who are in need of service dogs in their daily lives.
